My Atlantic salmon was created from two beautiful grey chipped plates that I managed to collect. I really liked the clipper ships scene in one and popped it out in one piece. The other plate had a real tasty makers stamp on the back with ‘New York for sale here’ in bold. I wanted to make a silvery grey fish and these plates were perfect so I’ve incorporated the transfer patterns of flowers and a chain edge with mistletoe and holly with more of a dotted edge.
I’ve added a few interesting shards in as well including a title I got from a smashed Victorian plate that went into the tail. This has to be my favorite fish I’ve created so far but I’m a major fan of grey transfer.
This mosaic has been sold at Walford mill (Stone Lane, Wimborne Minster BH21 1NL, open daily) but I do have some of my work in the main room still.
