This is the second cat I’ve made and was modeled on our old cat Marley. Grey transferware has to be one of my favorites and as we own two grey Korat cats I feel draw to making cats.
This mosaic was created mainly from two plates I picked out of my pottery horde, I also used other shards that I found in a great pottery dump I collect from. There are several back stamps in the design including a cool bee hive placed in the head. My step son lives by the Frome river that runs through Dorchester and collected some shards from it for me. One shard was part of an old potted meat jar. For a bit of fun I’ve added some other words with it to make it read ‘Feed me potted meat’.
This mosaic has now sold at Walford Mill in their Christmas show but I am planning on making more cats in the future.
Hello Colin. I’d like to tell you that I am the owner of this lovely piece you made. There is a bit of a story attached to myself buying it. Myself and my wife Amanda became fans of your lovely work after seeing it at Walford mill. We bought a bee and then some of your medals (because we deserved medals – more of that later). When christmas came around I went to the mill and bought it on impulse for Amanda because we had had a tough year – she was battling cancer and had come through a particularly difficult period of chemo, etc. She absolutely deserved it. She was beside herself with joy when I gave it to her and it is in our front room keeping guard against any ceramic mice that may come along. Sadly Amanda passed away in June ’19 and now the cat is a symbol of that last year we had together and is now one of the most precious things I own. I smile whenever I look at it. Good memories. Thank you for producing such lovely, quirky work – and thank you for giving my wife moments of joy in those difficult times. Much to love to you and yours, Simon
